Congressman Tim Murphy has called for submissions for the Annual Congressional Art Competition. High school students residing in the 18th Congressional District can submit an original, two-dimensional work of art for judging. The winner’s piece will be displayed as part of an exhibit in the U.S. Capitol.
“The Congressional Art Competition is a great way to show off the artistic talents of high school students,” Congressman Tim Murphy said. “Submissions, due Thursday, May 1, will be judged by a panel of local professional artists. The first place winner will have their work displayed in an exhibit in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The exhibit will include one winner from each congressional district, and be seen by the thousands of tourists that pass through the Capitol each year.”
The first place winner will also be invited to the exhibit’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 25, 2007, in Washington, D.C. The second place winner’s art will be displayed in the Congressman’s Washington D.C. office for one year.
“Each year I am impressed with the high-quality of work these young artists submit through their schools,” Murphy concluded. “I look forward to another great competition and would like to thank all the art teachers in our local school districts for encouraging their students to participate. If it was not for the dedication of these teachers, many students would never realize their talents and use art as an outlet for their creativity.”
Submissions can be paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art, or photography. It may be no larger than 30 inches by 30 inches when framed and no more than four inches in depth. The work does not need to be framed.
