Murphy Applauds President Trump’s Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett for Supreme Court
Washington, D.C. – On Saturday, September 26, 2020, President Donald Trump nominated Amy Coney Barrett to fill Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat on the Supreme Court. Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) released the following statement in response:
"The Supreme Court plays a very important role in the function of our government. Our Founding Fathers put in three governing bodies as a means of checks and balances. Each of these need to function properly for our Republic to function. The judicial system is in place to interpret the law, not make the law. President Trump fulfilled his constitutional obligation by submitting a nominee for the Supreme Court this evening. It is now up to the Senate to decide whether to proceed with her confirmation. Amy Coney Barrett is a proven originalist. She has a record of interpreting the laws as they are written rather than incorporating her own political beliefs into her decisions. It would be fitting for another woman take the seat of Justice Ginsburg, a trailblazer for women in the legal field. It is my hope that the Senate votes to confirm her," said Murphy.
