ORLANDO – U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park, Fla., is currently accepting applications for her Youth Advisory Board. This highly selective advisory board is designed to allow students to advise Murphy on topics that directly affect young people, while offering an opportunity to suggest new policies that improve young lives. Murphy is the Chair of Future Forum, an influential group of young House Democrats who focus on issues and opportunities important to young Americans.
“As a former educator, I’ve had many opportunities to engage with young people and I share their frustration with how difficult it can be to make their voices heard in the halls of Congress. I also represent one of the youngest congressional districts in Florida, and every time I chat with a student or a young parent, I’m reminded why it’s so important to involve young people in the legislative process,”Murphy said.“This Youth Advisory Board is another opportunity for me to hear directly from some of my youngest constituents and use their feedback to craft policies that improve their lives, create more opportunities for success, and invest in their future.”
The board will also give students the opportunity to learn about the legislative process and gain valuable insight into how government works. Positions on Murphy’s Youth Advisory Board are strictly reserved for college and high school students currently residing or going to school in Florida’s Seventh Congressional District.
Youth Advisory Board members will be required to attend two meetings per school year with the introductory meeting taking place on Tuesday, November 5, 2019, in Orlando, Fla. Students should apply on Murphy’s website by the deadline on Tuesday, October 29, 2019.
