ORLANDO— U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park, Fla., invites all parents, teachers, and students in the Central Florida area to participate in her 2021 “Stephanie’s Scholars” reading challenge and join her for a virtual launch event on Monday, March 29 at 5:00 p.m. with New York Times best selling author Brandon Mull. Mull is best known for his children's fantasy series, Fablehaven, as well as Dragonwatch, The Candy Shop War, the Beyonders trilogy, and the Five Kingdoms series.
“Reading is essential to help children grow their imaginations and expand their worldview, especially during a time when we’re still limiting our interactions with the world due to the pandemic,” said Murphy. “As a mom of two young children, I know how reading can play a critical role in a young person’s life, and I encourage Central Florida students to read more books through this fun reading program.”
Participants of the “Stephanie’s Scholars” reading program must submit reading logs signed by a parent, teacher, or guardian that certify they have read at least five books for elementary school students, kindergarten to fifth grade; five novels for middle school students, sixth to eighth grade; and ten novels for high school students, ninth to 12th grade. Those who complete the program will receive a special congressional recognition from Congresswoman Murphy. The deadline to complete the program is Friday, Dec. 3, 2021.
To attend the virtual launch event, parents, students, and teachers of Florida’s Seventh Congressional District are encouraged to register by visiting murphy.house.gov/StephaniesScholars. The event will also be available as a livestream through Murphy’s Facebook page.
