U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park, Fla., has been appointed by the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives to the Board of Visitors of the United States Military Academy at West Point, which oversees morale and discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods, and any other matters relating to the academy that the board decides to consider. Rep. Murphy is the first U.S. Congresswoman from Florida to be appointed to West Point’s Board of Visitors.

Today, Rep Murphy was at West Point, participating in her first Board of Visitors’ meeting.

“I’m grateful for this honor and look forward to helping preserve the academy’s standard of excellence in training leaders of character,” said Murphy, who also serves on the House Armed Services Committee and is a former national security specialist for the Department of Defense. “West Point produces the best Army officers in the world, and I will work with my fellow board members to ensure that every cadet continues to receive the world-class education, strong discipline, and invaluable leadership skills for which West Point is renowned.”

A student seeking to attend one of the service academies, with the exception of the Coast Guard Academy, must obtain a nomination from a Member of Congress or other authorized nominating source.

The deadline for nomination applications for the graduating class of 2022 is September 7, 2017. For more information on the nomination process, please visit
