U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy of Winter Park, Fla., was named ranking member on the Contracting and Workforce Subcommittee of the House Small Business Committee. Murphy will use top post to help streamline access to federal resources for central Florida small businesses.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our nation’s economy, which is why I’m proud to fight for them on the Small Business Committee,” said Murphy. “When I worked in the private sector helping companies grow, I saw how important it was to have access to local, state, and federal resources. I also experienced the regulatory obstacles that burden small businesses. As ranking member, I’ll work to expand opportunities and resources to help central Florida businesses compete for federal contracts and to help them retain and recruit skilled employees. Among my top priorities in Congress are to strengthen our middle class and help our economy grow, and this new position will help me do just that for central Florida.”
Murphy also secured a seat on the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access, which evaluates the operation of financial markets in the U.S. and how they can provide capital to small businesses. This Subcommittee is also charged with oversight of Small Business Administration (SBA) programs that facilitate guaranteed loans, microloans, and disaster loans.
