Agriculture

America’s diverse agricultural economy is the backbone of our continued prosperity. It helps feed hundreds of millions of Americans every day while also stocking shelves around the world. Eastern North Carolina, rightly so, is proud of its rich farming tradition, especially hogs, turkeys, sweet potatoes, cotton, and tobacco. As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, which has jurisdiction over tax and trade policy, I helped preserve the expanded Death Tax exemption in the Working Families Tax Cut and make permanent good tax policy that helps our farmers. As a member of the Trade Subcommittee, I work every day to improve global market access and trade opportunities. With North Carolina being one of the largest users of the H-2A program, I have advocated for reasonable H-2A labor rates and slashing regulations that lead to skyrocketing labor costs. I know our food comes from farmers, not the grocery store, and I will continue to advocate for policies that provide certainty and opportunity for our growers.
