Craven County Receives $1.4 Million to Expand Health Center Services
Craven County, N.C. – On Wednesday, April 14th, 2021, the Health Resources and Services Administration announced the government of Craven County will receive $1,410,000 to support their Health Center Program. Craven County operates two Federally Qualified Health Centers – one in New Bern and another in Havelock.
Federally Qualified Health Centers facilities are designed to allow patients to be charged based on their ability to pay. The facilities in Craven County have been operating under this designation since 2015 and are projected to serve 6,318 patients this year.
Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) issued the following statement in response:
"Unfortunately, Craven County continues to lag behind the national average when it comes to all-cause mortality. This issue arises from a variety of factors but certainly increasing access to preventative and primary care is a step in the right direction," said Murphy. "Thank you to the Health Resources and Services Administration for continuing to enable local leaders who serve our community."
