Craven County Receives $691K Grant to Improve Flood Disaster Resilience
Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, August 11th, the United States Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of North Carolina announced that Craven County will be receiving a $691,610 grant to improve disaster resilience. This grant will be used to fund elevation of four residential structures in Havenlock and New Bern, NC.
Congressman Greg Murphy (NC-03) issued the following statement in response:
"Like much of the Third District, Craven County is within the special flood hazard area (SFHA) that is particularly vulnerable to excess flooding in the event of a weather emergency" said Murphy. "Elevation projects like this one are key to improving our disaster preparedness and limiting flood damage caused by inclement conditions. We are in the process of developing a comprehensive plan for flood management in our state, and efforts like residential structure elevation will be part of that overall strategy. Thank you to FEMA for their tireless efforts to assist Eastern North Carolina residents in securing a more resilient and safe future!"
