Eastern North Carolina Business Organizations Receive $420,000 for Economic Investment

January 28, 2021

Greenville, N.C. – On Tuesday, January 26th, 2021, the Economic Development Administration announced the Mid-East Commission (MEC) and the Neuse River Council of Governments (NRCG) both received $210,000 worth of Economic Development Planning investment from the federal government. This support will benefit the creation of new jobs and capital investment in Craven, Jones, Pamlico, Carteret, Duplin, Onslow, Beaufort, Pitt, Bertie, Hertford, Martin, Greene, Wayne, and Lenoir counties.

Organizations like MEC and NRCG help foster the creation of new businesses by targeting investment through development projects. They also act as information resources for new and current business owners.

Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) issued the following statement in response:

"Through no fault of their own, because of both direct effects and indirect effects of the pandemic, many business owners are struggling to support their families and their employees," said Murphy. "Fortunately, these grants will bring much needed assistance. Even before the pandemic, rural communities and small towns were faced with the challenge of revitalizing their economies and providing opportunities for the next generation. I thank the Mid-East Commission and the Neuse River Council of Governments for helping businesses in eastern North Carolina work toward that goal."
