FEMA Awards Craven County $1.2 Million to Install Flood Protections
Craven County, N.C. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has announced that Craven County will receive $1,187,114 to increase the elevation of 11 local homes. Funds from this grant will go toward raising the foundations of these homes onto stilts that extend two feet beyond the Base Flood elevation in congruence with local ordinances.
Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) issued the following statement in response:
"Getting these homes back above the flood plain before storm season is a major priority," said Murphy. "Without it, they would be susceptible to floods that we can almost guarantee are coming. I'm grateful these funds were made available and I know these families are looking forward to feeling more secure in their homes."
