Murphy Applauds Passage of Defense Appropriations Bill

September 29, 2023

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. issued the following statement in response to the passage of the Department of Defense Appropriations Act which funds our military for Fiscal Year 2024:

"After much hard work and deliberation, House Republicans delivered a robust funding package for our Department of Defense that raises our troops' pay, protects us against the growing threat of China, and cuts President Biden's divisive social agenda," said Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. "As the representative of several critical military installations in Eastern North Carolina, I was proud to support this legislation and the wins it brings to our communities."

The legislation includes:

- 5.2% pay raise for all troops

- Unprecedented 30% pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers (E-1 to E-4)

- Critical reforms to improve quality of life for military spouses

After receiving feedback from officials at the military installations in our district, I’m proud to share I worked with my colleagues to secure:

Defense Health Program.
