Murphy Applauds Passage of the Interior and Environment Appropriations

July 24, 2024

Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 8998, the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025:

"Today, I proudly supported the passage of the Interior and Environment appropriations package put forward by House Republicans," said Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. "This legislation protects public access to lands for recreational use, eliminates burdensome regulations, protects American jobs, expands utilization of our natural resources, and cuts down wasteful spending. For the past 3.5 years, the Biden-Harris Administration has undermined the use of domestic lands and resources to appease liberal special interests.

Eastern North Carolina, home to beautiful parks and lands, will benefit from the responsible allocation of funding for the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's North American Wetlands Conservation Fund. I am grateful to Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Simpson for his diligence in crafting this bill and for including my funding requests to protect the beautiful ecosystems back home and to allow the National Park Service to renegotiate leases for individuals experiencing hardship."

NC-03 Wins

  • Directs the National Park Service (NPS) to provide a briefing on the status of existing leaseholders with the NPS, particularly in financially struggling coastal regions, and the authorities for issuing and extending lease terms.
  • $49 million for U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service North American Wetlands Conservation Fund.
  • $3.12 billion for the National Park Service, including $2.71 billion for the Operation of the National Park System account.

Background

The Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2025 promotes U.S. energy independence, limits the Biden-Harris Administration’s regulatory agenda, protects access to our public lands, and reins in unnecessary spending.
