Murphy Commemorates National Vietnam War Veterans Day
Washington, D.C. – This morning, Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in honor of National Vietnam War Veterans Day. After visiting the memorial to pay his respects, Rep. Murphy filmed the following tribute video in memory of all the North Carolinians who fought and died during the Vietnam War. Background: National Vietnam War Veterans Day is observed annually on March 29th in recognition of the veterans who served in the U.S. military during the Vietnam War. Approximately 2.7 million American men and women served in Vietnam, with 216,348 servicemen coming from North Carolina. 1,302 North Carolinians were killed in action during the Vietnam War and approximately 300 died from other causes. Both MCAS, Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune played essential roles during the war, including training and deploying Marines. During the Vietnam War, more than 265,000 American women served the military and 11,000 women served in Vietnam, with 90% working as volunteer nurses.
