Murphy Condemns Continued Democrat Government Shutdown

October 7, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., issued the following statement following Senate Democrats again voting down legislation to reopen the federal government:

"Senate Democrats, and solely Senate Democrats, are putting party over country by neglecting their responsibility to keep the federal government open," said Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. "Several weeks ago, the House of Representatives passed a clean continuing resolution with no partisan tricks or gimmicks. Senate Democrats, because of fear from their Progressive Left, rejected this proposal, despite voting for one with identical funding levels just back in March. Further, they offered a radically partisan counterproposal to provide free health care for illegal aliens, repeal $50 billion in funding for rural health care, and eliminate commonsense work requirements for Medicaid.

"The $1.5 trillion in new spending that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats are demanding is a charade meant to appease their progressive base and protect their political careers. We are less than 10 days away from our troops missing a paycheck, National Flood Insurance Program authorization has lapsed during hurricane season, and about 750,000 federal employees have been furloughed. We were elected to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars and ensure that our federal government functions as intended. Republicans voted to fund the federal government 13 times under former President Biden. Democrats are using the shutdown for self-aggrandizing, political posturing, while abandoning hard-working Americans and their families."
