Murphy Introduces Legislation to Increase Efficiency in DoW and VA Healthcare Delivery

December 12, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D., introduced the bipartisan DoD and VA Medical Credentialing Integration Act of 2025, alongside Congresswoman Susie Lee, to direct the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to jointly select and implement a uniform credentialing and privileging system for medical providers.

"Efficiently aligning the Department of War and the Department of Veterans Affairs complementary healthcare missions will enhance patient care and provider readiness while saving taxpayer dollars," said Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. "By streamlining oversight, increasing accountability, and improving coordination, millions of military and veteran beneficiaries will receive high-quality care that safely meets their medical needs.

"This legislation is a strategic opportunity for the advancement of healthcare priorities throughout the federal sector healthcare system that strengthens workforce recruitment and retention, refines effective government health agency practices, and provides for service members and veterans, all while safeguarding and better utilizing Americans’ hard-earned tax dollars."

Background:

  • Military Health System & Veteran Health Administration Integration (MHS/VHA).
  • Department of Defense (DoD) needs clinically active medical teams, particularly active-duty officers and enlisted personnel, delivering high complexity care to maintain skills so that military medical personnel are prepared to deploy downrange.
  • DoD Military Treatment Facilities (MTF) are force generation platforms where health care professionals hone their clinical skills to ensure a continuous cadre of skilled medical forces.
  • The MHS has a statutory obligation to care for 9.5M DoD beneficiaries.
  • The VHA provides high-quality, comprehensive medical care to 9.1M enrolled Veterans, many of whom have complex medical conditions.
