Murphy Opposes Second House Appropriations Minibus, H.R. 7617
Washington, D.C. – On Friday, July 31, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 7617, which is the second appropriations package of the year. Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) voted against the measure.
"Passage of the Democrats' $1.3 trillion socialist appropriations bill today is yet another example of their partisan messaging tactics. If they had it their way, the federal government would spend money as fast as the treasury could print it, to the detriment of our children and grandchildren. What's the point of having budget caps if we carelessly exceed them with emergency funding? Congress has a process that has effectively provided coronavirus funding. Hijacking the normal appropriations process to pass this emergency funding is inappropriate.
"Additionally, Democrats' partisan disdain for the president doesn't change the fact that Republicans control the Senate and the White House. If they want to come to the table and negotiate with Republicans to fund the government in a bipartisan way, then we stand ready to work with them. But Republicans refuse to forfeit our core values of defending the unborn, securing our southern border and preserving school choice," said Murphy.
