Murphy Returns $160,000 from 116th Congress Budget Back to Taxpayers

January 22, 2021

Washington, D.C. – Following the end of the 116th Congress, Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03), despite it being his first year in office with significant startup costs, returned $160,000 of the money allotted to him during the term back to taxpayers – more than 7% of his budget. Murphy released the following statement:

"As a fiscal conservative who worries about our mounting national debt, I reject the ‘use it or lose it' mentality with which most people view taxpayer money in Washington, D.C," said Murphy. "Our office and staff have committed to being good stewards of the taxpayer's money. Congress' job is to write the laws of the land in the most efficient way possible. If every federal legislator and bureaucrat had this perspective, we could significantly ease the burden of our massive national debt on our children and grandchildren."
