Murphy Returns from Trip to U.S.-Mexico Border

June 15, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) arrived in Arizona late on Monday, June 8 for an educational visit to the U.S.-Mexico border and returned to North Carolina on Thursday, June 11. Murphy attended the trip with his colleagues from the Congressional Border Security Caucus. The group spent two full days in Arizona and New Mexico speaking with Drug Enforcement Administration agents, Customs and Border Patrol agents, local law enforcement and others.

"Visiting the southern border was a truly eye-opening experience. My conversations with law enforcement convinced me now more than ever that the current situation at the border is a humanitarian crisis," said Murphy.

"Law enforcement officials told us real life horror stories about young teenagers being forced to run drugs across the border while their parents are held hostage until they return. The drugs that are brought in also lead to so much death and misery here in the U.S. Many young women are dragged into sex trafficking by cartels. These stories are harsh realities that often go untold in the mainstream media. We must crack down on these humanitarian offenses to protect not only our own citizens, but also the innocent people who are forced to serve at the whim of these evil cartels," continued Murphy.

An album with photos from the event can be found here.

While on the trip, Murphy met Sean Ludden, a Customs and Border Patrol agent who hails from New Bern, North Carolina.

"It was a welcomed surprise and an honor to meet agent Ludden while visiting the southern border. It's always great to see people from eastern North Carolina making a positive impact on our great nation. I thank him and all other law enforcement officials at our southern border who work so hard every day to keep the innocent safe," concluded Murphy.
