Murphy Saddened by Partisan Impeachment of President Trump

December 18, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. released the following statement before voting against both Articles of Impeachment.

"Today the House of Representatives will formally establish a dangerous precedent for our republic. I will be voting against both Articles of Impeachment.

"It is neither a high crime nor a misdemeanor for the Commander in Chief, as leader of American foreign policy, to root out corruption in a country to which we provide U.S. taxpayer dollars. It is neither a high crime nor a misdemeanor for the President, as an American citizen with the same rights as you and me, to refuse to fully participate in an investigation where due process is not afforded. These two facts lead us to the only remaining conclusion: Democrats are impeaching President Trump simply due to their bitterness over the outcome of the 2016 election," said Murphy.

"This vote today will likely lead to even further dysfunction in our government for generations to come. In the future, the House of Representatives will simply be relegated to a political weapon for the House majority to use when the president is a member of the opposite party. I hope that is not the case, but I'm afraid the House's actions today will likely make it inevitable."
