Murphy Says NO to InFAKEstructure, Build Back Bankrupt Agenda

November 6, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Rep. Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) issued this statement after voting NO on the Senate infrastructure bill and the rule paving the way for President Biden's Build Back Bankrupt agenda:

"In the middle of the night, Speaker Pelosi twisted enough progressive arms to force a vote on a $1.2 trillion ‘inFAKEstructure' bill — less than 15% of which actually goes to what North Carolinians would traditionally consider infrastructure," said Murphy. "The rest is liberal pork spending that does nothing to address our country's needs. In fact, the only reason why this sham of a bill was rushed to the floor was because Democratic leadership in the House needed it to pave the way for President Biden's Build Back Bankrupt agenda. Last night's vote was a purely political desperate move by left-wing politicians hurting from Tuesday's election, and was not at all in the interest of the American people.

The left wants to propose billions in Green New Deal priorities and socialist programs and call it infrastructure. To be clear, North Carolinians want a substantive, focused infrastructure plan to upgrade our roads, bridges, waterways, and broadband internet that our communities desperately need. I couldn't agree more. I introduced a bill earlier this year to actually define infrastructure in Congress. If we can't agree on basic terms and definitions, we can't move forward for the American people. The Democrats' inFAKEstructure package was an opportunistic Green New Deal power grab, tied directly to Speaker Pelosi and Joe Biden's Build Back Broke legislation that will ruin our economy and bankrupt our future. While I fully support upgrades to our nations real infrastructure, I cannot in good conscious support a bloated liberal spending bill that does nothing but balloon the size of the federal government and waste away taxpayer dollars."
