Murphy Statement on Misguided Higher Education Bill

October 15, 2019

Washington, D.C. Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) issued the following statement after Democrats introduced the Higher Education Authorization Act of 2019.

"Judging by my experience as a former professor at East Carolina University and member of the board of trustees at Davidson College, the Democrats' misguided Higher Education Authorization Act doesn't attack the root of the problems surrounding tuition costs," said Murphy. "Instead, Democrats continue to revisit policies that simply haven't accomplished what they were advertised to do. Once again, this bill highlights Democrats' instincts to do what they do best—spend large amounts of taxpayer dollars and make promises they can't keep. Instead, we should promote policies that set students up for success in the workforce once they've graduated."

Congressman Murphy is a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor.
