Murphy Visits Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies with President Trump

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) joined President Donald J. Trump today for a tour of Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies Innovation Center in Morrisville, North Carolina. The facility is in the process of developing key elements for a potential COVID-19 vaccine for Novavax, an American drug company. Novavax received $1.6 billion in federal money through Operation Warp Speed, which is the Department of Health and Human Services' plan to produce and deliver 300 million doses of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine by January 2021.

"Operation Warp Speed parallels the Manhattan Project in its magnitude and importance. As a physician, I understand the rigorous process drugs must go through to reach the market. The United States is on pace to have a vaccine that would typically take four to five years to procure in only eight months. The Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies facility in Morrisville is yet another example of how North Carolinians are leading the way on the frontier of innovation," said Murphy.
