Murphy Votes Against H.R. 1333

April 21, 2021

Washington, D.C. – On Wednesday, April 21, 2021, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1333. Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) released the following statement after voting against the bill.

"As we have learned during the COVID-19 pandemic, the president needs to have the authority to quickly adjust who can and cannot enter the United States," said Murphy. "H.R. 1333 would strip this necessary presidential power, even though President Biden used that authority as recently as January to limit travel from Europe due to the pandemic.

"By forcing the president to use the ‘least restrictive means' to enact immigration policy, the federal government would be bogged down by frivolous lawsuits that could ultimately be a detriment to our national security. I voted against this legislation today and I hope it does not become law."
