October 1st Deadline for Service Academy Applications Approaching
Washington, D.C. – The deadline to apply for service academy nominations from Congressman Greg Murphy, M.D. (NC-03) is October 1, 2020. Prospective applicants can learn more about the application process by visiting Murphy's website here.
Members of Congress may nominate candidates for appointment to four of the five U.S. service academies: U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Kings Point, NY. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.
Murphy released the following statement:
"One of the most important responsibilities of members of Congress is nominating young men and women to be appointed to America's prestigious service academies. I hope many of the capable men and women in eastern North Carolina answer the call to serve our great nation by applying for the honor of attending these great American institutions," said Murphy.
"A Nominating Committee I have assembled composed of highly qualified individuals will blindly review each application and rank each candidate to assure the process is fair and equitable. Eastern North Carolina has always been well-represented at U.S. Service Academies and that tradition ought to be continued. I have the utmost confidence that will be the case this year," concluded Murphy.
