New Bern, N.C. – On Tuesday, September 1, 2020, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that the State of North Carolina will receive $1,118,979.32 for the CarolinaEast Health System based in New Bern, N.C. The funds will be used for continuing emergency protective measures being taken at the hospital system in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Greenville, N.C. – The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced it will award $2.7 million in grants for marine debris removal and prevention across 23 projects. North Carolina Coastal Federation, Inc. is receiving $121,090 to aid with the removal of at least 20 abandoned and derelict vessels (ADV) from estuaries in northeastern North Carolina.

Washington, D.C. – On Saturday, August 22, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 8015. If it became law, the legislation would not allow the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to make any operational changes from those that were in effect on January 1, 2020 until January 1, 2021 or the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency. The bill would also allocate an additional $25 billion to the USPS.
